Home Repair Programs

CHR provides an opportunity for partnership between elderly and disabled low income homeowners and volunteer groups from non-profit organizations, financial institutions, churches, and other volunteer groups. The Volunteer Home Repair and Weatherization Program provides materials and tools to volunteer groups assisting homeowners by painting and repairing the exterior of the home and improving energy efficiency. Together with these groups, the Program provides basic exterior repairs to homes in the Dallas area. The repairs focus on health and sanitation, safety, and energy efficiency. CHR supplies donated materials and tools obtained through solicitation of gifts in kind and grant funds.

In order to maximize the impact of funds, labor, and donated materials, housing repair efforts are focused in areas where other housing rehabilitation and infill housing projects are taking place. In support of community revitalization efforts, CHR has continued to develop itself as a resource for tools and supplies so that volunteers can help neighborhoods in their revitalization efforts.

CHR works with several groups on a continuous basis. Each group is unique in what it does and the way the Volunteer Home Repair and Weatherization can help.

People Helping People  ( PHP )  is a program of the City ofGroup.jpg (39287 bytes) Dallas Housing and Neighborhood  Services. Elderly or handicapped low-income homeowners receive supplies from the City or CHR to have minor exterior repairs completed by volunteers. PHP screens the clients and assigns them to a volunteer group. PHP refers all of their volunteer groups to CHR.

Paint the Town  is an annual project of the Greater Dallas Association of Realtors. 2002 is the 12th year CHR has been involved with the Paint the Town program.  This  project has a big impact on communities due to the fact that they work on 25 to 30 homes each year.
